Sleep Disorder Testing

Sleep Disorder Testing is the newest service provided at St. Aloisius Medical Center. For those who suffer from one of many so-called sleep disorders, sleep can sometimes have nightmarish effects on daily life.

This is a Respiratory Related Sleep Disorder Program provided in joint venture with Winmar Diagnostics of Fargo, designed to diagnose and treat sleep apnea in its most common forms.

A diagnosis of sleep apnea begins with a thorough history and physical examination conducted by the patient’s personal physician. If a further diagnostic workup is necessary, an in-hospital overnight sleep evaluation study may be conducted.

Treatment of sleep apnea can include behavioral therapy, weight loss, the application of continuous positive airway pressure during sleep, the judicious use of medications, or, in some cases, surgical intervention.

Some of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea are:

  • Falling asleep too early, often while watching television or in a social setting.
  • Feeling drowsy during the day even after a full night of sleep.
  • Snoring at night.
  • Awaking suddenly at night gasping for breath.
  • Waking up with chronic headaches and a groggy feeling.
  • Chronic exhaustion
